Founded on 3^rd October, 2001, The LEIKOL (Leimarol Khorjeikol) is a pioneer women writers’ organization dedicated for the promotion of Literature in Manipur. It was founded under the leadership of Maharajkumari Binonidi Devi, an eminent writer and woman activist as the founder president at her residence Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal West, with a concerted effort of eminent women personalities of Manipur such as Khaidem Pramodini Devi and Professor Chongtham Jamini Devi. Women of Manipur has a unique history of Activision in the social and cultural arenas. The idea behind the formation of this organization is to bring women writers of the state together and promote the culture of writing among women of the region with a missionary zeal.

Leikol shoulders the responsibility of tracking down the rich legacy of these unique women across all communities of the state. These women had played important roles in making culture by composing their songs, prayers and creating many art forms besides having been bread-earners along with their men. Manipuri women’s role in the socio economic development is quite significant. Their contributions to the agriculture and allied activities, handloom and handicrafts are well recognized. The rich and diverse culture of Manipur is well depicted in her handloom and handicrafts products

The organization feels the need of both women and men of the state, to endevour in order to enable themselves able to live a civilized and harmonious life. It also feels the urgency to take up capacity building measures for women writers in order to encourage them in nurturing the new sense of aesthetics and also in conserving those timeless values of tradition of pluralism in the country and in Manipur.

The organization firmly believes in bringing about social transformations for the better and also in affirming the trait of timeless cultural heritage which promotes a healthy relationship between men and women and human beings and environment. The LEIKOL upholds the philosophy of relationships as the most significant aspect of existence. Literature being universal ‘The LEIKOL’ has the far-sighted concerns of promoting humanitarian and environmental issues at large.

LEIKOL has the aspiration to reach out to all the like-minded people or individuals of the nation and of the world. With all these ideals as its primary goal, ‘The LEIKOL’ in the recent past has organized many seminars, lectures, meet the author, writers-meet programmes at the state, national & international levels.
