About Leikol Manipur

Founded on 3^rd October, 2001, The LEIKOL (Leimarol Khorjeikol) is a pioneer women writers’ organization dedicated for the promotion of Literature in Manipur. It was founded under the leadership of Maharajkumari Binonidi Devi, an eminent writer and woman activist as the founder president at her residence Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal West, with a concerted effort of eminent women personalities of Manipur such as Khaidem Pramodini Devi and Professor Chongtham Jamini Devi.

Women of Manipur has a unique history of Activision in the social and cultural arenas. The idea behind the formation of this organization is to bring women writers of the state together and promote the culture of writing among women of the region with a missionary zeal.

Leikol shoulders the responsibility of tracking down the rich legacy of these unique women across all communities of the state. These women had played important roles in making culture by composing their songs, prayers and creating many art forms besides having been bread-earners along with their men.

Manipuri women’s role in the socio economic development is quite significant. Their contributions to the agriculture and allied activities, handloom and handicrafts are well recognized. The rich and diverse culture of Manipur is well depicted in her handloom and handicrafts products

Leikol Publication

The work of publication of poetry, short story, critical essay, novel, children novel, dramas, anthology of Manipuri poetry/short story, anthology of English poetry/short story, books translated from Manipuri into English etc. authored by the members of the organization has been underway for the last 20 years.

M.K. Binodini’s Charik Pareng (A String of Beads) an extract from Malem ( An anthology of Short story) published by Leikol ( Leimarol KHorjeikol) is being studied in B. A. 1^st Semester.

Leikol Foundation

The foundation Day celebration of the organization is observed on 3^rd October of every year. On this occasion, floral tributes are given to the photos of the three eminent women writers of Manipur- Thoibi Devi, Khaidem Pramodini and M.K. Binodini as a compulsory content of the function. Honoured accorded to each 4 (four) senior members of Leikol selecting in order to their ages with momentos and shawls.

Petron members who enroll newly during the year also are honoured with mementos and shawls. Members and other invitees participate in the poetry reading and sometimes, short story reading on every Foundation Day Celebration of the organization.
